Itinerary
Day 1: We pick you up from your hotel very early and head to Limatambo valley. From here we will head of up to reach across the puna grassland and the village of Chonta, where we start our 1 hour birding walk to the Condor overlook. Here where we will stay long enough to get a good view of any Andean Condors passing by and have seen up to a dozen in the past. As we walk back, Andean birds we may see are, Black-chested Buzzard-Eagle, Apurimac Brush-Finch, Golden-billed Saltator, Hooded Siskin and Variable Hawk. After taking a picnic lunch in the field, we will descend into the Limatambo Valley and then up to Mollapata village for a relaxing night, Those with energy may want to serch for, Buff-fronted Owl, Peruvian Pygmy Owl and the endemic Koepcke’s Screech-Owl.. Overnight in Mollapata.
Day 2: Early morning start, after breakfast we will head onto Soray Pampa. Located under the glaciers of the Salkantay massif, here we can start our search for the very localized endemic Vilcabamba Tapaculo. We have to make sure we don’t leave this place without seeing it well … ! Working our way along the track back to Cusco giving special attention to the Apurimac endemic which are the Apurimac Brush Finch, Apurimac Spinetail, Chestnut-breasted Mountain-Finch. Others bird species to see are the Peruvian Sierra-Finch, Cinereous Conebill, Band-tailed Seedeater, Black-backed Grosbeak, Crimson-mantled Woodpecker, Sparkling Violetear, Giant Hummingbird, Andean Lapwing, Plain-colored Seedeater, Red-crested Cotinga, Tit-like Dacnis, Plumbeous Sierra-Finch, White-tufted Sunbeam (endemic), Creamy-crested Spinetail (endemic), Cream-winged Cinclodes, Tyrian Metaltail, Pale-tailed Canastero, White-eared Puffbird and lots more.
